Under the eye of the majestic St. Petrus-church in Oirschot, the "monument in green", part of province Brabant grow the most tasteful strawberries of the Netherlands.
In natural surroundings where the partridge feels entirely happy, our strawberries are grown still traditionally in the natural soil. Our sandy soil in the neighbourhood Boterwijk (Butter District) is considered as the oldest agriculture ground of the municipality Oirschot.
In 1998, Jan Robben Aardbeien was the first company in the Netherlands which got the Milieukeur certificate for the efforts in the field of environment and surroundings. With nine other Milieukeur certified strawberry-growers Jan Robben set up in 2003 the growers association Les Meilleurs.
At the nursery in Oirschot several types of strawberries are grown, with different tastes. Especially the consumer who directly buys the strawberries profits of this. As from June 2004 also taste-session are organised for groups.
The cultivation of Milieukeur-strawberries contribute to a balanced environment on and around the company. A clean and healthy product is eventually the result of the many efforts which growing Milieukeur- strawberry demands.
Jan Robben enjoys to speak about growing Milieukeur strawberries and about the tasteful product. In the previous years Jan Robben, thanks to much free publicity, was a regular participant on symposia, workshops and other meetings. Both in front of professionals, policy makers and research workers as consumer groups JanRobben has given in a creative manner his vision concerning socially justified entrepreneurship.
Milieukeur
Milieukeur is developed and managed by the foundation Stichting Milieukeur, which was founded in 1992, on the initiative of the Ministry of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment and the Ministry of Economic Affairs. In the foundation Milieukeur consumers, manufacturers, retail, government and environmental experts participate. Once a product has been awarded the Milieukeur, this means that it is less damaging to the environment compared to most similar products. The Milieukeur mark can be found on many products, for example garden furniture. Also strawberries, apples, apple juice, leeks, onions, and many other products are available with Milieukeur.
Relation with organic products
Milieukeur products distinguish themselves from organic products as only the limited use of chemical crop protection agents and artificial fertilizers is permitted for Milieukeur products. Its well thought-out set of demands enables Milieukeur to realise environmental benefits often comparable to that of organic products.http://www.milieukeur.nl/ |
